An affordable open-air motoring option returns to General Motors with 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, and everyone gets their first up close and personal look at the production model at the Los Angeles International Auto Show on November 17th.  And, there's more good news.  The Camaro Convertible will arrive in dealer showrooms in February at the starting price of $30,000, including destination.

"The Convertible will make the all-new Camaro, already a smash-hit, even more desirable to a greater range of drivers," said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing.  I know that I couldn't be more excited.  The rebirth of the Camaro has been nothing short of fantastic.

This past February, I had the chance to spend a week driving a 2010 Camaro 2SS-- with its thunderous 426-horsepower engine, pavement burning 420 lb.-ft. of torque, responsive six-speed manual transmission, racing inspired Inferno Orange Metallic with black rally stripes exterior and an interior rated tops in the sports car class by WardsAuto.com-- and that was one of the most exhilarating weeks of driving bliss I have experienced, ever!  Upon returning the car to GM, I thought to myself, the only thing that could have made it better was a drop-top.

The Camaro Convertible concept car was introduced more than three years ago at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.  A production version was always a distinct possibility but with GM's meteoric plummet into bankruptcy, nearly as quick restructuring and subsequent rebirth which has included four CEO's in less than 18-months, nothing at the company was certain.  The new GM continues to move forward with quality product and improving sales.

I can't wait to see a Camaro Convertible on the road.  Better yet, I can't wait to test drive one!  Buying one might take a while.  Like the Camaro Coupe at its introduction, the convertible version will likely be hard to come by at first.
