Mercedes created a new category when it introduced the CLS, combining the sportiness and elegance of a coupe with the comfort and functionality of a sedan. The German automaker has sold approximately 170,000 CLS models globally.

"Customers all over the world have rewarded us for our courage in launching a completely new vehicle concept onto the market," said Dr. Joachim Schmidt, head of sales and marketing for Mercedes-Benz. "With its exciting design and refined sportiness, the new edition of the CLS also benefits from the fact that we are a whole generation ahead of the competition with our four-door Coupe'."
Cosmetically, the new CLS incorporates the latest design cues found on other Mercedes models including the front grille, head and tail lamps, doors and interior.

The new CLS hits the European market in February 2011. No word on when it will come to the U.S. or whether American customers will have some of the BlueEFFICENCY diesel engine options to go along with the V-8 gasoline model. The 2011 model CLS is just arriving at U.S. dealerships with few changes from last year. The new CLS probably shows up around this time next year as a 2012 model.
