Lincoln and Cadillac vs. The World

The U.S. is declaring war in some of its allies and Congressional approval is not necessary.  This isn't a military war involving guns, bombs and missiles.  This is an automotive war involving sheet metal, rubber and generous amounts of soft, supple cowhide.

Lincoln, the luxury division of Ford Motor Company, is bringing back an iconic nameplate to re-enter the flagship luxury sedan market.  Say hello to the all-new 2017 Lincoln Continental, unveiled at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

In September 2014,  General Motors announced plans for its luxury brand, Cadillac, to produce a new flagship sedan.  That sedan is the all-new CT6 and consumers can get their first up close and personal look at the CT6 at the Detroit show.

Both sedans are gorgeous vehicles with luxurious amenities galore, some of which are almost beyond imagination. But, they are reality as both cars will be in dealer showrooms this year.

Living in the Detroit area, you often see test vehicles on the road, driven by auto company engineers or executives.  I saw a few CT6s on the road and was less than impressed considering that months before announcing the new flagship, GM had introduced the uber elegant Elmiraj concept. At first glance, the CT6 did not match up.  To be honest, the car looked too much like a longer version of the CTS.  I didn't see it as a potential match to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class or Lexus LS.  But now that I've seen and sat in the final production version at the auto show, I'm kind of blown away!  VERY NICE!  And, while I have not driven one, yet, I am told that it drives like a dream.

Judging by the looks and feel of the Continental, I'm confident the same can be said of Lincoln's revived flagship.  Highlighted features include E-latch doors that open with a simple touch, a phenomenal sound system with 19 speakers, seats that adjust 30 different ways and a system that allows the car to practically drive itself during periods of backed up traffic.

From the looks of things, these new offerings from Lincoln and Cadillac should give their contemporaries at Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Lexus a good dose of competition.

While visiting the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, whether you are shopping or simply dreaming, be sure to check out the Lincoln Continental and Cadillac CT6.
