The 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid, along with its Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid cousin, is the world's first full-sized hybrid sports utility vehicle. Nearly identical to the gasoline powered version, the hybrid Yukon is equipped with a 6.0 liter V-8 engine mated to electric drive motors to create a two-mode powertrain that allows the vehicle to perform like a full-sized SUV and achieve 20 mpg in both city and highway driving.
I tested the vehicle in May 2008 and found that it performed up to specs. While it was certainly comfortably roomy for people and cargo, it is not designed to be a true off-road vehicle. Also, the hybrid technology makes the vehicle a bit pricey, starting in the mid-$50s, but GM is offering incentives to move product that bring the price down.
